Kiln Subscription // Open Studio

from $20.00
Subscription:

The kiln subscription is intended for people who have experience with ceramics, and want to leisurely build their pieces and fire when they are ready. Whether you use ceramics as a hobby, or professionally, there is an option for you! The kiln subscription offers either monthly access to a full kiln, a shelf, or half shelf firings. Each subscriber will also have access to signing up to use the “open studio” night on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30. If you need a quiet place to work, I will have the benches set up in our 24 ft yurt with tools available. The yurt sits in our flower gardens, and is about a 100 ft walk from the parking area. There is a composting toilet, sink, and full kitchen if you want to bring snacks or refreshments. It is an intimate setting with eight spacious seats available.

The first kiln subscription starts on June 1st! My studio and the open studio space are located at 725 Old Stage Road in Arrowsic.

Options:

Each option includes one bisque firing, and one glaze firing. Ideally, subscribers can try and have their items ready for bisque by the second or third week of the month so that they can be ready to glaze by the last week of the month. My goal is to fire full kilns, because partially loaded kilns can sometimes cause temperature issues, and aren’t a great use of energy. Please coordinate with me when you expect to drop pieces. If you wish to do more than one firing, you can always purchase an extra subscription that month. * If pieces are glazed too heavy or not properly sponged on the bottom, I will not load them until the issue has been dealt with. Accidents happen, but I encourage you to know the glaze you are working with to avoid ruining kiln shelves. I discourage use of crystal glazes on the exterior of pieces if you have not had success using them prior. I am happy to give you suggestions on stable glazes and how to safely use risky glazes.

  • Full Kiln - Skutt’s KM-1027 kiln with large 7-cubic-foot capacity -$150/month

  • Full Shelf - Two 10 5/8 × 22 “ shelves - $40/month

  • Half Shelf - 10 5/8 × 22 “ - - $20/month

*If you plan on building larger pieces (taller than 10 inches, or wider than 11 inches) please select the full shelf option.

Add ons:

  • Open Studio on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 - $50/month

  • Monthy Portland Pottery Run

    • $36 per 25 lb bag (mid range clay cone 5-6 ONLY)

    • If you would like to put in a request for glaze, please email me. The prices are so variable depending on who makes it. Sometimes I prefer to just order glaze from theceramicshop.com or other online shops.

    • If I pick up items for you at portland pottery, I will upcharge them slightly for time spent driving, communicating, loading and unloading.

To select your subscription, first choose whether you would like like a full kiln, whole shelf or half shelf and add that option to your cart, then the open studio or clay run can be added to your cart individually as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions! If you would prefer a more teacher led version of ceramics, please see the description for our upcoming 6 week beginner class!

I am so excited to see what you all make!
